Preventing deaths from infection and tackling antimicrobial resistance by supporting and accrediting effective antimicrobial stewardship programmes globally

Objectives

To develop a sustainable, points-based accreditation scheme utilising self-assessment surveys to inform and drive improvements in AMS practice in low-, middle- and high-Income countries and across hospital and community healthcare settings.

To utilise the results of accreditation surveys to:

  • Identify areas for improvements and support organizations to address these via education and quality improvement interventions
  • Enhance contributions to local, national and global surveillance of antimicrobial use and resistance.
  • Create awareness in healthcare payers and service users of variation and how this can be addressed
  • Support practice and policy research aimed at improving AMS globally

To support the development of Centres of Excellence across all health economies and foster collaboration with other healthcare organizations to spread good practice in AMS regionally and nationally.
